Be Candle Safe
- Igniting wicks when several are already alight in a tray can be hazardous, as loose clothing and sleeves could catch fire.
- Remove any combustible objects or materials, such as match sticks, accumulations of fluff or anything else which drops onto or becomes imbedded in the wax surface.
- Containers should be non-combustible and not conduct heat. Metal containers, such as those used for tea lights, should be avoided.
- After burning for some time, candles may produce a large volume of molten wax. Allow this to solidify and cool completely before the container is moved.
- Always ensure candle containers are on a level surface and avoid moving candles whilst they are alight.
- Keep candles well away from papers, curtains, furnishings and other combustible materials.
- Candles should be extinguished if they start to flare, or if the container catches fire.
- Burning candles must NEVER be left unattended.
